Vincent Whyte grew up in Telford - an overspill town in the West Midlands of England. From his mid-teens he spent over a decade playing guitar in every kind of bar band one can imagine, sometimes for money and often as a favour for a mate, until 2020 when the perceived collapse of society compelled him to buckle down and become a singer-songwriter. There was, after all, little else he could do. Taking inspiration from a continent and language spanning gaggle of bards and storytellers, Vincent’s tragicomic songwriting and idiosyncratic Spanish guitar chops have since won the favour of discerning audiences far and wide.
Three years on from his brooding self-produced debut ‘Wallflower Swan Songs’, 2024 ushered in the release of Vincent’s second album ‘Terrapin Singtank’. He’s still as reflective as he’s always been - only this time around he’s more upbeat, more polished, a little louder and sometimes borderline funky. The stylistic and sonic leap of ‘Terrapin Singtank’ is in no small part thanks to the contribution of acclaimed producer Benjamin Fitzharris (Mayors of Toronto, Cloven Hoof), marking the first studio collaboration between the pair. In addition to a run of successful solo shows across England and Wales, the accompanying album launch tour has seen Vincent open for Half Man Half Biscuit, The Wave Pictures and The Fugitives.
A self-styled ‘Anglo-Chanteur’ at his core, Vincent Whyte’s prevailing ambition is a simple one - to sing songs worth remembering in an increasingly forgetful world.
